Why WWE Is Booking Multi-Man Main Events Prior to ‘Mania, Latest Update On Where Rey Mysterio Stands With WWE

Since making his surprise return at the WWE Royal Rumble this year, speculation has abound regarding Mysterio’s future with WWE and whether or not he will return to the company.

Both WWE and Mysterio are open to the idea of him returning, however the hold up lies in the two sides wanting different schedules. WWE wants Mysterio to work a full-time schedule, however considering his age and injury history, Mysterio only wants to work a part-time schedule.

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, current speculation is that if Mysterio does indeed re-sign with WWE it will likely be for a return in 2019. Mysterio could end up working a part-time deal similar to that of Chris Jericho, in which Mysterio is allowed to pursue projects outside of WWE, but that will all depend on Vince McMahon approving the contract. Triple H is the head of talent relations in WWE, but at the end of the day Vince could veto any part-time deal offered to Mysterio if Vince is uninterested in the agreement.

Why WWE Is Booking Multi Man Main Events Prior to ‘Mania

According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, which broke the news earlier this week regarding WWE PPV’s potentially returning to a dual brand theme beginning with Backlash, there is a reason why WWE is stacking the cards heading into WrestleMania 34.

On Raw and Smackdown this week, it was confirmed that the Elimination Chamber match will feature seven Raw stars, and the WWE Fastlane match was made a Fatal Five Way Title match. The idea behind the multi-man main events is that WWE is trying to keep fans guessing as to what the main events will be at WrestleMania 34, despite it being known to most that Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns and AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura are the planned headliners.

Texting w/ WWE source this morning…interesting note. The reason both PPVs prior to Mania have multi man main events (12 total guys) is to “keep the fans guessing” as to what’s in store for WrestleMania. It’s a different thought process, not sure it’s necessarily working however
