Sam Darnold is looking forward to Sunday’s matchup with Green Bay legend Aaron Rodgers.
There’s been talk that the 5-8-1 Packers would shut down Rodgers, who has been dealing with knee and groin injuries, for their final two games. But the two-time NFL MVP insisted Wednesday he plans to play.
“Just the way he’s able to see the field so fast, it’s almost like he knows what the defense is going to do before the snap. For him, it just looks so easy and so effortless,” Darnold said after Wednesday’s practice. “He has probably the best arm talent that I’ve ever seen, debatably in the entire NFL history.
“He’s just really gifted throwing the football, but on top of that, he’s also super-smart. So we have our hands full with him. … I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.”
Darnold also has been impressed by Rodgers’ various television commercials over the years, jokingly adding, “He’s a great actor … and his TV commercials are pretty funny. I envy his ability to go in front of the camera and do that kind of stuff. Hopefully, one day I can do that, too.”
Jets starting right tackle Brandon Shell was placed on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury that coach Todd Bowles described as “pretty bad,” adding the third-year pro likely will require surgery. Shell was carted off the field in the second half of Saturday’s loss to Houston.
In addition to safety Jamal Adams, two special-teamers will represent the Jets in the Pro Bowl: kick returner Andre Roberts and kicker Jason Myers.
Jamal Adams will lead trio of Jets into Pro Bowl
A year ago, after missing out on the Pro Bowl,…
Roberts, a nine-year veteran who signed as a free agent this year, leads the league with an average of 14.9 yards per punt return, including one touchdown.
“It feels real good. My ninth year, my fifth team, it’s an honor,” Roberts said.
Myers, who was claimed off waivers from Seattle in August, has nailed 31 of 33 field goals, including five of 55 yards or more.
“It’s awesome — there’s plenty of great kickers out there all across the league,” Myers said. “To earn something like that, from players and coaches around the league, it’s a great honor.”
WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle), CB Darryl Roberts (toe), LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (shoulder) and LB Jeremiah Attaochu (concussion) did not practice. LB Jordan Jenkins (ankle) was limited. The Jets also claimed linebacker Emmanuel Lamur off waivers from Oakland.
